J-League Products

Born in the city of Komono in Mie prefecture, Asano started playing soccer as a child. He began to be observed by J-League teams after joining Yokkaichi Chuo High School.

At the age of 18, his talent was recognized by one of the J-League contestants, Sanfrecce Hiroshima. That season he made his professional debut with Sanfrecce Hiroshima and only played once.

In his second season he played 11 times before becoming a regular starter in 2015 and leading Sanfrecce Hiroshima to win the J-1 League.

In 2016 he was still the mainstay of Sanfrecce Hiroshima, scoring four goals from 14 matches.

Move to Arsenal

In the summer of 2016, there was a career boom in Asano. Arsenal surprisingly signed him that summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Asano has a special talent. So he did not hesitate to redeem it from the Japanese club.

However, Asano and Arsenal are not matched. The player's work permit did not come out because there were still not enough playing hours in the Japanese national team at that time. So he could not strengthen Arsenal and was loaned to Stuttgart.

Ups and Downs in Germany

Stuttgart in the summer of 2016 decided to borrow Asano for one season. In that clause there is an agreement to extend his loan period for one more season.

In his first season with Stuttgart, Asano played quite often. He played a total of 26 times and managed to score one goal which helped Stuttgart promotion to the Bundesliga.

Thanks to his slick performance, his loan extension clause was activated. But unfortunately in his second season Asano lost competitiveness in Stuttgart so he was returned to Arsenal at the end of the season.

In the 2018/2019 season, Asano returned to Germany. This time he was loaned by Hannover96, but still struggled to become a starter. He made a total of just 13 appearances for Hannover.

Career in Serbia and Back to Germany

In 2019, Arsenal received an offer from Partizan Belgrade to sign Asano. They received an offer of 1 million euros from the Serbian club for Asano's services.

With Partizan, Asano found his best touch again. In his inaugural season, he was trusted to drop 33 times with Partizan and managed to pack seven goals and five assists.

In his second season, Asano went crazy with Partizan. Down 40 times with Partizan, he managed to pack 21 goals and 10 assists for the Serbian giants.

Asano actually signed for three years at Partizan. But he decided to cancel the remaining one year of his contract.

Asano did not take long to find a new club. Bundesliga club, Vfl Bochum decided to recruit the winger.

He is still a mainstay in Bochum's attack so far, even though he has only scored one goal in this 2022/23 season.

Career in the Japanese National Team

Asano was first called up to the Japan U-23 national team in 2014. He was involved in the Japan U-23 team that competed in the 2016 AFC U-23 Cup.

At that time he led The Samurai Blue to win the tournament, by scoring two goals in the final against South Korea so that Japan won with a score of 3-2.

Thanks to his great talent, the Japanese manager, Vahid Halilhodzic began to attract him to the Japanese senior team since 2015. However, at the 2018 World Cup he was not brought to Russia due to lack of playing time.

Asano has now collected a total of 38 caps for the Japanese national team, and his goal against Germany was his eighth for the Samurai Blue.
